Regulations & Policies
Equal Opportunity Policy
REGENT IGS is committed to a principle of equal opportunity and access. We operate a policy of treating all applicants and students equally regardless of race, religion, color, sex, age, national origin, disability or sexual orientation.
Disability Policy
Our principle policy, with regard to the admission of students with any form of disability, whether it be in the form of a physical, social, psychological or learning disability, is that as far as we are able to accommodate and assist these students we will endeavor to do so.
All members of staff are obliged to be supportive of students with any type of disability to ensure that they are encouraged to participate fully in the life of REGENT IGS and are enabled to reach their full academic potential. For the purposes of this policy, the term ‘disability’ is given a wide interpretation and may include such long-term physical conditions as epilepsy and diabetes, as well as mental or learning conditions such as dyslexia.
To this end, we are committed at REGENT IGS to abide by the terms and requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995.
Attendance
REGENT IGS follows a very strict policy on ensuring the regular attendance of students. The following policies apply to any student who is enrolled on a classroom-based program of study. The student shall attend all classes, tutorials and examinations that form part of the course. In the event of a genuine reason for absence, the student must notify his or her personal tutor immediately. In the event of absence on medical grounds of more than one week, the student must provide a medical certificate, which can be obtained from a GP.
Any student who has not met the attendance requirements will be deemed to have withdrawn from the course of study and will be required to attend a disciplinary hearing with the Disciplinary Committee of REGENT IGS. The student’s course co-coordinator shall also attend the hearing.
In such a situation, when a student has withdrawn from a course or has been evicted from REGENT IGS for any reason, the Home Office will be informed of the decision within a week from the date of the decision.
Punctuality
All students are expected to attend classes, lectures, tutorials and work placements in good time.
Teaching
Students should attend all lectures and tutorials as per the timetable to enable the courses to run efficiently. Some lectures are given outside of REGENT IGS’s premises, such as on site at a student’s work placement, in order to give more detailed and realistic demonstrations. Notification of such lectures will be given in advance in the relevant classes.
Examination Registration
A student must have at least an 80% attendance record in order to be recommended by the Heads of Department to sit for examinations. Although REGENT IGS offers advice and assistance to students in examination entry procedures, it is the responsibility of the student to register with the awarding bodies in good time and with the appropriate fee.
Counselling
At REGENT IGS, we recognize that everyone encounters problems at some time in their lives. We will endeavor to offer guidance and support to our students so that they are able to cope with their studies or stressful situations and move forward in a positive way. We will assist with such issues as difficulties with studies, mental health problems and stress. We also offer advice and information on part-time employment, career choices and debt. If we are unable to assist you, we will be happy to find a professional who can.
Books and Stationery Supplies
REGENT IGS provides students with the relevant course materials. Students must buy course books, stationery and course materials that are essential for undertaking their course. Students are requested to bring the required books and materials to every teaching session.
Safe Learner
The safe learner concept was introduced by the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) in 2002. It describes a situation where an individual has learnt the importance of health and safety, understands how hazards are identified, assessed and controlled, and has developed a set of safe behaviours and transferable skills.
REGENT IGS believe safe learning is essential to maximize learners’ experience and achievement. Hence the ‘safe learner’ concept is central to our policy. We encourage and support the raising of standards and ‘best practice’ approaches related to this.
